Luke?s Significance In The Scriptures Essay -- essays research papers

Luke’s Significance in the Scriptures      If I were sufficiently fortunate to address understudies on Luke’s Gospel, just examining the true part of his compositions would not do him, nor Jesus, any equity. Alongside it being an extraordinary portrayal of Jesus’ life from his origination until his revival, Luke’s Gospel instructs exercises Jesus utilized through His lessons to more readily teach His supporters of the stuff to inevitably be a piece of God’s realm. Such data would be apparently too expansive to even consider understanding inside the bounds of a book, anyway Luke wonderfully consolidates these realities into one story with various exercises, leaving it as a troublesome undertaking for a teacher to choose which parts of it to cover.  â â â â The third Gospel, composed by Luke, presents The Son of Man through a human structure as Jesus. Jesus’ life on Earth could be separated into three sections: Jesus’ birth, Jesus’ lecturing, and Jesus’ demise and revival. These three parts of His life are the vocal focuses for what cutting edge Theologians appear to concentrate on in their own instructing, so it would be unreasonable for me to cease from utilizing them inside my own. It must additionally be recognized that quite a bit of what Jesus suffered through His lifetime educates a point so in the wake of talking about the real happenings of a specific occasion, it is important to talk about its expectations for us.      Concerning Jesus’ birth, I would show understudies how His introduction to the world had both simil- rities and contrasts to our own. Mary experienced pregnancy conveying a hatchling for nine                                                   Kearney 2 months, as ladies consistently have, however she was rarely really impregnated. The Angel Gabriel visited Mary to shoulder some sudden news, revealing to her that, â€Å"†¦you have found favor with God. See, you will imagine in your belly and bear a son† (CSB 99). Mary was a virgin, despite the fact that God enabled her to imagine a kid. This astonishing event was just the start of what might turn into a celebrated lifetime of wonders, lessons, and Je... ...nbsp;                           Kearney 4 Living by these two things, Jesus endeavors to spread God’s word with the goal that individuals will see that scorn filled and unforgiving individuals won't be welcome to the Kingdom of God. I would tell my understudies that at whatever point an endeavored demonstration of mine is being referred to, I will return to this to decide if God would support. The third Gospel, composed by Luke, is an itemized portrayal of Jesus’ life on Earth. Covering such a great amount of region as far as stories and exercises, it is hard to limit the significant focuses or to concentrate on specific angles. In the event that I were an instructor and needed to educate this to understudies, similar to I have quite recently done, I would separate Jesus’ life into three sections: Jesus’ birth, Jesus’ lecturing, and Jesus’ demise and restoration. I would hit upon the subjects which I have just referenced, and think about the criticalness of each. Finding the exercises introduced before a peruser and starting to think increasingly like God is the best accomplishment one could get from Luke’s Gospel.

Blog Archive Monday Morning Essay Tip Past Versus Present Tense

Blog Archive Monday Morning Essay Tip Past Versus Present Tense Virtually all MBA admission essays are written in the past tense, which makes sense, considering that candidates are most often discussing past experiences. Although the past tense is quite “user friendly,” another choice is to use the present tense to heighten the immediacy of the experience being presented and to draw the reader into the story. Consider the following examples: Past tense: “I arrived at my supervisor’s office at 11 a.m.; we tabled the deal no less than 15 minutes later. Then, the two of us sat by the phone, casually chatting about baseball, and waited. When our CEO finally called two hours later, we discovered that we had indeed submitted the winning bid….” Present tense: “I arrive at my supervisor’s office at 11 a.m. Fifteen minutes later, we table our deal. For the next two hours, as we casually chat about baseball, we wait by the phone. When it finally rings, our CEO is on the line, informing us that our offer has been accepted….” These examples do not represent “right” and “wrong” options, but instead illustrate two different styles a candidate might use, both of which can be equally effective; choosing which is the better fit for a particular essay depends entirely on the skill of the writer. Executing well in the present tense can sometimes be difficult, and we recommend that candidates undertake the task with caution. Further, this choice also depends significantly on the story’s content and contextâ€"the present tense is a good option when the experience recounted involves “high drama,” but it is not necessarily appropriate for every essay. How Psychology is going to benefit my Nursing Career Free Essay Example, 1750 words

Thus, understanding the requirements and processes of developing moral reasoning skills will help me greatly in the nursing field. First, it will benefit my knowledge of patient behavior and character. For example, I will be in a better position to handle children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. Having adequate moral reasoning knowledge will also improve my relationship with my coworkers because I will be able to make rational decisions in critical situations. These decisions are very vital to the recovery of patients because I need physicians, medical laboratory technologists, pharmacists, and many others to administer adequate care to patients (Herron, 2010). Another critical theory that will augment my moral reasoning is Lawrence Kohlberg s propositions of the perfect stages of moral development. According to Kohlberg, moral reasoning is the epicenter of ethical behavior that contains six crucial developmental stages. The six steps are grouped into three broad cate gories, including the pre-conventional stage, current stage, and post-conventional stage. The pre-conventional stage consists of the obedience and retribution orientation as well as the self-interest direction. Understanding the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle

Understanding the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle Heisenbergs uncertainty principle is one of the cornerstones of quantum physics, but it is often not deeply understood by those who have not carefully studied it. While it does, as the name suggests, define a certain level of uncertainty at the most fundamental levels of nature itself, that uncertainty manifests in a very constrained way, so it doesnt affect us in our daily lives. Only carefully constructed experiments can reveal this principle at work.   In 1927, the German physicist Werner Heisenberg put forth what has become known as the Heisenberg uncertainty principle (or just uncertainty principle or, sometimes, Heisenberg principle). While attempting to build an intuitive model of quantum physics, Heisenberg had uncovered that there were certain fundamental relationships which put limitations on how well we could know certain quantities. Specifically, in the most straightforward application of the principle: The more precisely you know the position of a particle, the less precisely you can simultaneously know the momentum of that same particle. Heisenberg Uncertainty Relationships Heisenbergs uncertainty principle is a very precise mathematical statement about the nature of a quantum system. In physical and mathematical terms, it constrains the degree of precision we can ever talk about having about a system. The following two equations (also shown, in prettier form, in the graphic at the top of this article), called the Heisenberg uncertainty relationships, are the most common equations related to the uncertainty principle: Equation 1: delta- x * delta- p is proportional to h-barEquation 2: delta- E * delta- t is proportional to h-bar The symbols in the above equations have the following meaning: h-bar: Called the reduced Planck constant, this has the value of the Plancks constant divided by 2*pi.delta-x: This is the uncertainty in position of an object (say of a given particle).delta-p: This is the uncertainty in momentum of an object.delta-E: This is the uncertainty in energy of an object.delta-t: This is the uncertainty in time measurement of an object. From these equations, we can tell some physical properties of the systems measurement uncertainty based upon our corresponding level of precision with our measurement. If the uncertainty in any of these measurements gets very small, which corresponds to having an extremely precise measurement, then these relationships tell us that the corresponding uncertainty would have to increase, to maintain the proportionality. In other words, we cannot simultaneously measure both properties within each equation to an unlimited level of precision. The more precisely we measure position, the less precisely we are able to simultaneously measure momentum (and vice versa). The more precisely we measure time, the less precisely we are able to simultaneously measure energy (and vice versa). A Common Though the above may seem very strange, theres actually a decent correspondence to the way we can function in the real (that is, classical) world. Lets say that we were watching a race car on a track and we were supposed to record when it crossed a finish line. We are supposed to measure not only the time that it crosses the finish line but also the exact speed at which it does so. We measure the speed by pushing a button on a stopwatch at the moment we see it cross the finish line and we measure the speed by looking at a digital read-out (which is not in line with watching the car, so you have to turn your head once it crosses the finish line). In this classical case, there is clearly some degree of uncertainty about this, because these actions take some physical time. Well see the car touch the finish line, push the stopwatch button, and look at the digital display. The physical nature of the system imposes a definite limit upon how precise this can all be. If youre focusing on try ing to watch the speed, then you may be off a bit when measuring the exact time across the finish line, and vice versa. As with most attempts to use classical examples to demonstrate quantum physical behavior, there are flaws with this analogy, but its somewhat related to the physical reality at work in the quantum realm. The uncertainty relationships come out of the wave-like behavior of objects at the quantum scale, and the fact that its very difficult to precisely measure the physical position of a wave, even in classical cases. Confusion about the Uncertainty Principle Its very common for the uncertainty principle to get confused with the phenomenon of the observer effect in quantum physics, such as that which manifests during the Schroedingers cat thought experiment. These are actually two completely different issues within quantum physics, though both tax our classical thinking. The uncertainty principle is actually a fundamental constraint on the ability make precise statements about the behavior of a quantum system, regardless of our actual act of making the observation or not. The observer effect, on the other hand, implies that if we make a certain type of observation, the system itself will behave differently than it would without that observation in place. Books on Quantum Physics and the Uncertainty Principle: Because of its central role in the foundations of quantum physics, most books that explore the quantum realm will provide an explanation of the uncertainty principle, with varying levels of success. Here are some of the books which do it the best, in this humble authors opinion. Two are general books on quantum physics as a whole, while the other two are as much biographical as scientific, giving real insights into the life and work of Werner Heisenberg: The Amazing Story of Quantum Mechanics by James KakaliosThe Quantum Universe by Brian Cox and Jeff ForshawBeyond Uncertainty: Heisenberg, Quantum Physics, and the Bomb by David C. CassidyUncertainty: Einstein, Heisenberg, Bohr, and the Struggle for the Soul of Science by David Lindley

Crime Prevention Strategy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Crime Prevention Strategy - Essay Example d finally coming up with actionable strategies for dealing with the crime problem, to be recommended to the Tucson Police Department and all leveraging the SARA model as the overall framework for the exercise (Center for Problem-Oriented Policing, 2013; Hoffman, Legosz, and Budz, 2005; City of Tucson, 2013). The City of Tucson Police Department details incidences of major crimes in the city over a period from 1997 to 2001 and breaks down statistics for different crimes. The plots reveal a general downward trend in incidences of crimes from homicides to arson to and robberies, with some crimes peaking in some years and some in other years in the early part of the last decade, with the exception of drug-related crimes, or so-called â€Å"Narcotic Drug Law Cases†, which have been relatively sticky and persistent over the observation period, varying over a relatively narrow range and generally being intractable from 1997 all the way to 2011, with the rates actually peaking and the n returning to 1997 levels in the intervening period of time. This is the chosen crime problem for the purposes of this discussion. It is worth noting that as of 2011, the incidence of such crimes is recorded at about 1,000 per 100,000 persons living in the city, an uptick from the 900 per 100,000 persons recorded in 1997 (City of Tucson, 2013b, p. 8). II. Discussion A. The Crime Problem, Qualitative and Quantitative Measures The plot below details the occurrence of the narcotic drug law crime problem in the city of Tucson from 1997 to 2011, as earlier mentioned, showing the relative stubbornness or persistence of this crime problem over time (City of Tucson, 2013b, p. 8): Graph Source: City of Tuczon, 2013b, p. 8 In the plot above, one can see that from 1997 to 2011, there was a considerable uptick in the drug crime problem in the city, with the last set of figures from 2003 to 2011 seeing the city facing a seesaw battle with the problem over time, and with the rates stubbornly hig her compared to the rates that were recorded in the latter part of the last century (City of Tuczon, 2013b), In contrast to this crime problem, the city seems to have fared better battling other crimes, which as can be shown from corresponding plots have been on downward trends after peaking at various points in the intervening years from 1997 to 2011. From a strategic point of view, there is value in further examining this problem in hopes of helping the Tuczon Police Department deal with the stubborn drug problem and improve the statistics in line with the progress that has been made dealing and briging down the incidence of other major crimes (City of Tuczon, 2013). From the field, we are able to get qualitative counterparts to the drug statistics provided by the police department above. One can classify the drug problem in Tucson as consisting of two main parts, one having to do with prescription drug abuse, which has the aid of health care workers in some cases, and one having to do with the trade in illegal substances such as crystal meth, which

Contributions to Organisation Theory Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Contributions to Organisation Theory - Essay Example In general, the ideas underlying Taylor’s vision of organization, management, and motivation were based on certain conditions supposed to be constant. These were the presence of a capitalist system and a money economy, the Protestant work ethic and desirability of the increased size for obtaining the advantages of the division of labor and specialization of tasks. While classical writers concentrated more on the formal elements of organization, the next generation of organizational theorists was much concerned with social factors of work and human relations between the workers. One of the representatives of this generation is George Elton Mayo who is known for his active participation in the Hawthorne experiments which were carried out at the Hawthorne Works of the Western Electric company in Chicago in the period of 1924 and 1927. The studies aimed to reveal the effect of lighting on the worker productivity. However, in the process of experiments, there were discovered other factors which contributed to higher productivity of workers under research. The result of the experiment was that Elton Mayo disproved the beliefs of Tayor that a worker was motivated only by self-interest. The investigation was based on the classical approach and researchers were interested in how the intensity of lighting influenced the productivity of women workers. In the process of experiment, it was discovered that the production depends little on the physical conditions. The experiment was continued in another direction.

History Of Mass Media From Traditional Age

History Of Mass Media From Traditional Age Mass media has coexisted with Homo sapiens since the brink of time as its history stretches back beyond the dawns of recorded history to the individual who then wanted to reach out to a larger group of audience through any form of communication, regardless a painting on the wall of a cave, or just by telling a story to a group of people. History of mass media can be traced back to the early days of dramas that were performed in various cultures. The word media was first mentioned in the 1920s, but back then, it referred to something that had its origin much further in the past and the term Mass Media originated with the print media that was also its first example. The first newspaper was printed in China 868 A.D, but due to the high cost of paper and illiteracy amongst people, it didnt prosper. It was Johannes Gutenberg, who for the first time printed a book in a printing press in 1453. However, the invention of printing press in the late 15th century gave rise to the first forms of mass communication, enabling publication of books and newspapers on a larger scale than previously possible. According to Wikipedia, mass media refers collectively to all media technologies, including the Internet, television, newspapers and radio, which are used for mass communications, and to organizations which control these technologies. Over the years, during the period post-Second World War, radio, television and video were introduced. The audio-visual facilities became immensely popular as they provided information and entertainment. Of late, it is the Internet which has become the latest and most dominant of all the mass media. Here, information is been generated through various websites and search engines. One can play games, listen to radio while working and chat with friends and relatives, irrespective of location. It also gives information on various topics such as literature, politics, science, sports, fashion, movies, education, career, jobs etc. similar to other types of mass media. Indubitably, one of the biggest influences in our modern lives today, is the force of mass media. Without this medium of communication, our way of live and our civilization would be much more backward than where we are today. We humans are still immature as we definitely have a lot of growing up to do as a race, and mass media is a tool that is supposed to aid us in achieving the aim of fulfillment. Mass media comprises of two parts; print media and the broadcast or also known as electronic media. The print media refers primarily to newspapers and magazines. Radio, television and the Internet constitute the broadcast media. Mass media is simply a section of the media that spreads to a large audience simultaneously, through various types of media. The simplest way to understand what mass media is about is to take a look at newspapers. The first high-circulation newspapers arose in the eastern United States in the early 1800s, and were made possible by the invention of high-speed rotary steam printing presses and railroads which allowed large-scale distribution over wide geographical areas. However, mass production of newspapers had a downfall. The increased rate of circulation led to deteriorate in feedback and interactivity from the readers, which made newspapers a one-way medium. Newspapers first appeared in Europe in the mid-17th century. They evolved gradually from a similar type of publication called broadsheet a single sheet of paper that responded to unusual events. Although newspapers of today and those in the past are quite similar in almost every aspect, newspapers and their content have changed over time. Newspapers in different communities often contain dissimilar contents. The future for newspaper industries seems to fade over time as people look to the Internet for news and young people turn away from papers, paid-for circulations are falling year after year. Papers are also losing their share of advertising spending. Classified advertising is quickly moving online. Inevitably, the newspaper industries which was once experienced explosive growth now faces cyclical trough as new technology such as the existence of e-book has rendered obsolete newspapers in their traditional format. Revenue has plummeted since fierce competition from internet media has squeezed older print publishers. The number of people reading newspapers and magazine has decreased over the years, and polls indicate that the public has more confidence in the accuracy of stories aired on television than in the papers. On the other hand, those who get their news from the print media are better informed. On the bright side, reading newspapers has a lower impact on global warming than reading online. This is so because the impact from powering a computer itself outweighs the impact from creating newsprint. According to Torraspapels Paper, Reading a newspaper generates lower impact on global warming than reading the news online for 30 minutes. Most newspapers today focus on local coverage. There are only a few that cover national issues in depth, and whose editorials can influence national policy. How important the print media is to the individual is subject to debate, however. Magazines, on the other hand, were known to exist since the 1700s in which it resembled books. Based on historical research, the first magazine ever produced was called The Gentlemans Magazine, released in January, 1731 by well-known writer of his prime, Edward Cave. The main idea of Edward was to compile a monthly issue of news and commentary on topics the public were interested in. The difference between magazines and newspapers is that magazine has a relaxed style of writing, while giving and sharing opinions in a magazine is encouraged. However, newspapers during that era were more fixed and straight-to-the-point, following strictly to collected data and statistics. Magazines from the past have a similar purpose to newspapers, criticizing organizations. For instance, Daniel Defoes first English magazine, The Review was published to criticize the Catholic Churches of England. The magazine was also released during the 1700s but published magazines then only lasted for a few months as publishers are geographically limited and the cost of magazine printing is very expensive. More than five decades after magazines were introduced, mass circulation was made possible. Magazines which was once only affordable by the buying elite, now available for the working class as well, and the subject matter had shifted mostly to entertainment sake as well. Magazines are now very affordable to the public. This was made possible by the lesser cost in printing and a bulk of the cost is also reduced due to the many advertisers that the magazines have. This is why that it is in magazines that advertising went full-blast. They can secure one whole page for their products in colored form unlike that in newspaper. Admittedly, this can cost more than the dailies but the potential buyer would be enticed more about the product as the ad would be more attractive in color. Nevertheless, from there, the concept of magazines expanded to various interests, ranging from sports to entertainment, general knowledge and more during todays popular culture. Magazines have a more casual style of reading as literary freedom is practiced. With this, venturing into each interests or fields is easier and more fun as magazine writers have freedom to express their ideas on the subject, as collected data comes second in magazine writing. Today, magazines can be found in almost every newsstand, divided into categories; some of them include IT, fashion and family. Successful magazines include Readers Digest, National Geographic and Peoples Magazine which are also placed in the Top 10 most subscribed magazines in the world. Readers can now also choose from the subscription options that publishing companies offer their customers. They can choose to be subscribed on a daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annually or annually on their magazine of choice. It is also great for short reading for its articles would not really be so mind-boggling but not that shallow either. This is why a lot of readers prefer magazine as well because they are not intimidated by the number of pages within, and they can stop at one article anytime they like and read the other articles any time they want. Book reading gives a much more different experience in which if you stopped at a section, you have to read the rest immediately if you dont want to risk losing yourself or being confused with the story. Magazines really had gone a long way since then as it already evolved itself in just less than three centuries and it was able to stand on its own with its own share of loyal followers. It is already an industry on its own and the evolution doesnt stop there. Magazines would still evolve and change but rest assured that its followers would be with them all the way. Commercial radio first began to broadcast in 1920, and got into politics very quickly carrying the results of that years presidential election. The 32nd President of the United States, President Franklin Roosevelt effectively used radio to communicate directly with the American people through his fireside chats during the worst days of the Depression. Radios are the earliest form of televisions, developed over 80 years ago when wireless communication was never a thought even in the most brilliant scientists minds. It was until the late nineteenth century that James Clerk Maxwell developed the first radio-wave theorem in 1864. Mathematically, he proved that if an electrical interruption is of short distance from the point at which it occurred, there would be effect or passage of electrical current due to a type of wave that moves at the speed of light, in which the electromagnetic energy would travel. Heinrich Hertz experimented with Maxwells thesis in 1888 and demonstrated that waves travelled in straight lines and could be reflected by a metal sheet. Augusto Righi, an Italian physicist, continued and refined Hertzs work, establishing the equality between electrical and optical vibrations. Another scientist, Temistocle Calzecchi-Onesti, constructed, in 1888, a tube due to his belief that electrical discharges of atmospheric perturbations influence iron filings. In 1894, Oliver Lodge named Temistocles famous tube the coherer and increased the reception gain of the hertzian waves. Alexander Popoff then created a vertical metal pole by using Lodges coherer and collecting atmospheric disturbances in a rudimentary antenna. The invention of these instruments helped Guglielmo Marconis discovery who verified that electromagnetic waves travel between two points separated by an obstacle which led to the creation of the first radio transmitter. This experiment was repeated with larger spark gaps starting with 5 feet; expanded up to 100km and radiotelegraphy was born. The first radio station began operation in the 1920s. The broadcasting radio station was KDKA in Pittsburgh. This service became very popular and soon the concept spread around the globe. Early uses of radios were maritime, for sending telegraphic messages using Morse code between ships and land. Radios were used to pass on orders and to communicate between armies and navies on both sides in World War I. Germany used radio communications for diplomatic messages once it discovered British had tapped its submarine cables. Besides broadcasting purposes, point-to-point broadcasting, including telephone messages and relays of radio programs became common in the 1920s and the 1930s. In the pre-war years, radios were the development of detection and locating aircrafts and ships by radars. As time progressed, so did the development of radio. Today, the concepts used in radios are also used in many modern devices that are now essential to our modern lives. Inventions of radios ultimately lead to telephony (Mobile phones), videos (Television sends the picture as AM and the sound as AM or FM, with the sound carrier a fixed frequency), satellite navigation systems (Satellites with precision clocks, the satellite then transmits its position, and the time of the transmission, the receiver listens to four satellites, and can figure its position as being on a line that is tangent to a spherical shell around each satellite, determined by the time-of-flight of the radio signals from the satellite. A computer in the receiver does the math), radars (Detects objects at a distance by bouncing radio waves off them. The delay caused by the echo measures the distance and the direction of the beam determines the direction of the reflection), radio remote control (Radio remote controls use radio waves to transmit control data to a remote object as in some early forms of guided missile, some early TV remotes and a range of model boats, cars and airplanes while large industrial remote-controlled equipment such as cranes and switching locomotives now usually use digital radio techniques to ensure safety and reliability), heating (Radio-frequency energy generated for heating of objects is generally not intended to radiate outside of the generating equipment, to prevent interference with other radio signals. Microwave ovens use intense radio waves to heat food. Diathermy equipment is used in surgery for sealing of blood vessels. Induction furnaces are used for melting metal for casting, and induction hobs for cooking), and even radio services. Radio became the dominant form of media during and after World War II, as it could provide war information much faster than newspapers, and people desired current news of the war situation and of their relatives fighting overseas. However newspapers still supplied daily information and advertising. Radios importance as a news and information source declined however with the introduction of television in the late 1940s. Television dominated the media industry in 1950s. Radio and print media was to compete with television that seemed to give the best of both media: pictures and sound. With the advent of television in the 1950s, print media and radio were forced to rethink their approaches towards news and entertainment. The new media changed the nature of running for the United States presidential office, the first campaign ads for a presidential candidate appeared on television in 1952 and the first presidential debate was aired in 1960 between Senator John Kennedy and Vice President Richard Nixon. The television however was not invented by a single inventor, instead by many who contributed to the evolution of television. It was Joseph Henrys and Michael Faradays work with electromagnetism in 1831 that jumpstarted the evolution of electronic communication. In 1862, the very first still image was transferred over wires by Abbe Giovanna Caselli, the first person to accomplish such feat in the history of mankind using his brilliant invention, the Pantelegraph. Scientists May and Smith then experimented with selenium and light, which eventually revealed the possibility of transforming images into electronic signals in 1873. Boston civil servant George Carey thought about complete television systems and in 1877 he put forward drawings for what he called a selenium camera that would allow people to see by electricity. By 1880, great inventors, Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison theorize about telephone devices that were capable of transmitting images as well as sounds. Alexander invented the photophone, a device that used light to transmit sounds but he wanted to advance his device for image sending. Four years later, Paul Gottlieb Nipkow, first to engineer a rotating-disc technology that was able to transmit pictures over wire, making Paul Nipkow the father of mechanical televisions. He was the first human ever to discover televisions scanning principle, in which light intensities of small portions of an image are analyzed and transmitted, making Paul Nipkow the forerunner of televisions. At the Worlds Fair in Paris, the first International Congress of Electricity was held. That is where Russian Constantin Perskyi made the first known use of the word television. At the dawn of the 20th century, the momentum of ideas and discussions shifted to physical development of television systems. Inventors around the globe attempted to build mechanical television systems based on Paul Nipkows rotating disks and electronic television systems based on cathode ray tubules developed independently in the 1907 by English inventor Alan Archibald Campbell Swinton and Russian scientist, Boris Rosing. Electronic television systems lagged behind mechanical systems for several years as mechanical television was cheaper to build and delicate parts was not used. Besides, it was difficult to get financial backing to develop electronic television when mechanical television worked so much better at that time and with a cheaper working system, the public didnt see the need to change. However, Vladmir Kosmo Zworykin and Philo Taylor Farnsworth made some critical breakthrough, and electronic televisions began to catch up. Electronic television systems eventually replaced mechanical systems. Peter Goldmark, working for Columbia Broadcast System, demonstrated color television to the Federal Communication Commision in 1946. His system produced color pictures from a red-blue-green wheel spin in front of a cathode ray tube. Cable television, formerly known as Community Antenna Television or CATV, was born in the mountains of Pennsylvania in the late 1940s. The first successful color television system began commercial broadcasting on December 17, 1953 based on a system designed by Radio Corporation of America. On June of 1956, practical television remote controller first entered the homes of Americans. The Germans however used remote control motorboats during World War I. In the late 1940s, the first non-military uses for remote controls appeared. The very first prototype for a plasma display monitor was invented in July 1964 at the University of Illinois by professors Donald Bitzer and Gene Slottow, and then graduate student Robert Willson. However, it was not until after the advent of digital and other technologies that successful plasma televisions became possible. There was an explosive growth of the media in the 1980s, especially television. Satellite television reported events across the world live. With competition from 24-hour cable television news, many newspapers disappeared. Cable news and subscription cable television also rose in popularity, competing with network television. According to a Media Research in May 1994, 98 percent of all American houses has at least one TV set. 63 percent received at least basic cable. It is estimated that the average American spends 20-25% of his or her time with the television on. According to a Newsweek article on June 7 1999, the United States is the largest exporter of television programs and American movies are in prime time television all over the world. However, the Europeans are now making more of their own shows and sitcoms that have more local flavour. As in the 80s, parents continue to question the appropriateness and value of media programming for children of different ages. As the 20th century was coming to an end, a new media was born the Internet. It links people together through their computer terminals with modems connected to telephone lines and with the Internet electronic publishing and chat rooms sprang up, allowing individuals to express their opinions freely to a large global audience, giving printed media a challenge to survive. With minimal technical information, any individual will be capable of commenting personal views on air without the huge expense as of in traditional publishing. The Internet also gave advertising a whole new platform to promote their products and delivering their message. The future of mass media is yet to be unknown as there are possibilities of new medium yet to be invented and because of the widespread distribution of cellphones and the Internet, it is easy to forget that both technologies are at their immature stage. However, it is unlikely that we, as of living in this society are able to focus on the lens of history with clarity upon what these technologies have or might have effect upon us in the future. Mass communication is truly the mass power to shape the future of human culture as communication is culture and since humans are searching for new forms of communication, indubitably, we are indirectly looking at new forms of utilizing power, new forms of controlling individuals and new forms of shaping the human culture to come.

The Concept Of Learning Style Education Essay

The construct of larning manner has been studied by many different methods. Learning manners can be defined as the features and preferable manner in which a individual used to garner, place and treat information ( Fleming, 2001 ) . For Kolb ( 1984 ) , larning manner is the procedure in which a individual receives new information and accomplishments. Sternberg ‘s ( 2001 ) definition of tilting manner is different from that of Kolb ‘s and Fleming ‘s, Sternberg defines larning manner as a accustomed form or preferred manner which a individual uses to make something through different activities over a long period of times. The above definitions have a common point which individual have their ain penchant in larning. If people understand more about their acquisition manner, they can happen a better manner to larn and go a more adept scholar ( Sze, 2009 ) . It helps single to larn new things efficaciously and expeditiously because they understand their acquisition experie nce and cognize the thing which they need ( Sze, 2009 ) . I would wish to utilize VARK and Honey & A ; Mumford to happen out my larning penchant. VARK Test VARK is a set of systematic inquiries which ab initio decided in 1987 by Neil Fleming to supply an person with an apprehension of their acquisition penchant about the manner which an person would wish to take-in and give-out information ( VARK, 2012 ) . The acronym VARK stands for Visual ( V ) , Aural ( A ) , Read/write ( R ) and Kinesthetic ( K ) sensory modes which used by an person to larn information ( VARK, 2012 ) . After I finished the VARK trial, I found that I have a multi-model ( VARK ) larning penchant. The mark spread between the four modes of VARK is really little. I scored 10, 9, 8 and 10 in Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic severally. It means my learning penchant is the mixtures of the four manners. The consequence of the study is rather accurate for me that I am traveling to explicate the results of the consequence with my day-to-day life and learning experience. When I studied in the high sheepskin in concern disposal, I enjoyed the lectors to utilize different diagrams, charts and models which used to depict some complex or abstract theories or information. For illustration, the lector used the diagram to demo the constituents of the Gross national income. It made me to understand and have new cognition more rapidly. Although, I would wish to larn cognition through ocular manner, I would non disregard the read/write class. It is besides of import for me to retain information. When I was making the concluding twelvemonth undertaking in the high sheepskin, I preferred to happen out the utile information from the books and cyberspace. After that, I would observe down some of import information which I may utilize in the undertaking. For kinaesthetic class, it is besides the manner to assist me geting new things through experience or pattern. I had a portion clip occupation last twelvemonth which I needed to put in the visible radiation in diff erent exhibitions. At the first clip I joined the squad, I did non cognize how to put the visible radiation. After the supervisor ‘s presentation and my pattern, I could make it by myself rapidly. I besides like to have and give out sentiments in group treatment. It is because I can have different suggestions and thoughts when holding a treatment. It give me I good opportunity to roll up and increase cognition. As a multi-modal penchant scholar, I can be more flexible to alter my larning manner from one to another to run into different larning or working environment. However, multi-model scholars may experience insecure by merely utilizing one penchant to larn, they may necessitate more than one manner or schemes to have new information ( VARK, 2012 ) . Honey & A ; Mumford ‘s Learning Styles Questionnaires ( LSQ ) The Honey & A ; Mumford ‘s ( 1992 ) LSQ is first developed in 1982 which was based on the David Kolb ‘s Learning Styles Inventory ( LSI ) . Different from the Kolb ‘s LSI which utilizing abstract words, Honey & A ; Mumford ‘s LSQ focal point on existent work activities. It makes the users to understand more easy. LSQ aims to LSQ divides larning manners into four types ; Militants, Theorists, Pragmatists and Reflectors. The study of the LSQ said that I have strong penchant on reflectors. It means that I will seek to understand and analysis the things exhaustively before doing a decision. It is rather appropriate to depict my larning penchant. I had many different group treatments with my squad members when I studied in sheepskin and high sheepskin in concern disposal. I seldom gave out my sentiment instantly during the first meeting. I normally listened to other members ‘ positions and suggestions and so thought what they said is suited for the undertaking or assignment. I would roll up the information from the cyberspace and text editions to turn out my points were right. After I considered different deductions, I would give my sentiments. I do non truly hold that I have a moderate penchant on militant in the study. I prefer to make something practically by following structural instructions. I am non easy to affect in new experience without careful analysis. Restriction of VARK and Honey & A ; Mumford ‘s LSQ Harmonizing to Hawk and Shah ( 2007 ) , there has non adequate research to back up the cogency and dependability of the VARK. Fleming and Baume ( 2006 ) besides said that cognizing one ‘s larning penchant did non intend the individual could better its acquisition. It merely tells us our larning penchant. Personality The alone form of ideas, feelings and behaviours which an person persists over a clip and across state of affairs can be defined as personality ( Morris & A ; Maisto, 2009 ) . After reexamining different definitions of personality, Sadeghi, Kasim, Tam & A ; Abdullah ( 2012 ) besides said that â€Å" to sum up, personality can be defined as a dynamic and organized set of features possessed by every individual that distinctively and unambiguously influences his or her behaviours, motives, and knowledges in assorted state of affairss. † Knowing one ‘s personality helps us to acknowledge ‘real you ‘ which can profit for our farther development of our possible ( Barrett & A ; Green, 2011 ) . Myers Briggs Type Indicator ( MBTI ) The MBTI is a systematic questionnaire which was developed by the female parent and girl squad of Katherine Briggs and Isabel Briggs-Myers which combines the personality trial, calling trial and leading manners test into one ( TeamTechnology, 2012 ) . It benefits us by detecting our thought calling, developing our leading potency, bettering our relationships and intensifying our self-awareness ( TeamTechnology, 2012 ) . Harmonizing to the study of the MBTI trial ( Appendices ) , I have the highest personality types in ESFJ and ISFJ. The chief different between the two highest marking is between extroversion and invagination. It means my hiting spread of these two factors is really little. In my option, both extroversion and invagination are adopted in my day-to-day life which depends on the different state of affairss. As I mention in the Honey & A ; Mumford ‘s LSQ, I prefer to believe something exhaustively before making it. It meets the description of the invagination that people concentrate on a few, deep issues and think things through before moving. If I have to analyse specific issue or point. I can pass a batch of clip to happen out the information through different beginnings by myself. I will be really satisfied that I can understand the job with my attempt. Sometimes, I am an extraversive individual. When I was a lookout in primary and secondary school, I would wish to pass on with n ew squad members. It gave a opportunity for me to cognize more about them. The study besides said that I seek to develop harmoniousness in the relationships and promote cooperation. It is rather right that I think a good relationship of a squad is really of import. Every squad member is valued for a squad. I believe that good teamwork can assist to accomplish the end efficaciously and expeditiously. Significant & A ; Limitation of MBTI Williamson & A ; Watson ( 2007 ) point out making MBTI trial can profit our self-understand and development. It is utile for calling guidance to let people to understand themselves and make up one's mind appropriate calling program ( Kennedy & A ; Kennedy, 2004 ) . On the other manus, many organisations use MBTI to measure their appliers that it is unethical and illegal for them to test out appliers ( Quenk, 2000 ) . It is merely reflect the penchant but non the ability, intelligent and opportunity for successful ( Kennedy & A ; Kennedy, 2004 ) . Team Role Meredith Belbin defines squad function as a inclination to act, contribute and interrelate with others in a peculiar manner in a squad ( Belbin Associate, 2012 ) . Belbin Team Roles has been used in many organisations over the word to place the squad function of different people within the organisation ( Belbin Associate, 2012 ) . Belbin Team Roles Belbin Team Roles trial is a diagnostic tool which used to measure single squad function penchant and find the squad roles balance in a squad ( Partington and Harris, 1999 ) . Nine squad functions are identified in the Belbin squad function trial, they are coordinator, maker, works, recourses research worker, squad worker, implementer, computing machine closer, proctor judge and specializer. Belbin Team Roles are used to place people ‘s behavioural strengths and failings so that it helps to construct productive working relationship and common trust and apprehension within a squad ( Belbin Associate, 2012 ) . Harmonizing to my study of Belbin on-line trial, I have the most preference function in the completer closer with the highest mark from 80 – 90. I besides have penchant function in coordinator, proctor judge and completer closer which I score from 70 – 80 in each of them. It is rather accurate to state that I am a completer closer. When I studied in the sheepskin in concern disposal, I would be responsible for uniting different parts of the assignment and happening out the mistakes in most of the group assignment. And so I would do polish for the portion which can be better. I hope to guarantee the quality of the studies which can run into the criterion and demand of the assignments. However, I may be unduly to worry about the quality of the study which I may inquire my squad members to subject their plants to me every bit shortly as possible so that I can hold plenty for look intoing. Some squad members may revolt the haste agenda. As a squad worker and coordinator, I would wish to ask for every squad members to affect in treatment. I am willing to listen different sentiments from the squad members which help to make better thoughts for the assignments. Restriction of Belbin squad function Knowing one ‘s squad function can non understand one ‘s public presentation in the squad ( Jackson, 2002 ) . It means it can non foretell the squad success by placing an person ‘s squad functions. Furthermore, Belbin squad function has non been proven with high dependability and cogency so that the consequence of the trial may be dubious ( Lessem and Baruch, 2000 ) . Self-awareness – overall synthesis After finishing different trials in the above parts, I have more consciousness of my learning manner, personality and squad function penchant. It gives me an overall analysis to understand myself profoundly by placing my strengths and failing. Strengths The VARK shows that I have I multi-learning penchant which means I can larn and retain new cognition in more than one theoretical account. It makes me more flexible to treat different cognition in different state of affairss. Harmonizing to the consequence of my learning manner penchant and personality, it shows that I am a careful individual. I prefer to listen to different people ‘s sentiments and observe their felling and behaviour. And so I will seek to roll up the utile information every bit much as possible to assist me to analysis a job. After analysing the job thoughtfully, it will give my sentiments. In conformity to my personality and squad function penchant, I would wish to advance a harmoniousness working environment. I would present cooperation and teamwork that I will experience at more easiness to bring forth better work in this environment. Failing There has failing in holding a multi-learning penchant. It is similar with the failing of my personality which my clip direction accomplishment is comparative hapless. I like to detect event from many different positions. I will blow a batch of clip to roll up information. As a multi-learning penchant leaner, I frequently need to utilize more than one theoretical account to guarantee the apprehension of the new cognition. Sometimes, it makes me annoyed by analysing the relationship between the thoughts. I normally waste tonss of clip in analysis subdivision without existent execution. It normally makes me to make the work in the last minute. Although, the occupation may be small spot busy, I can complete it on clip. My personality and squad function shows that I concern the relationship between others. It is hard for me to reject one ‘s thought whether I may non hold with the point. I scare that I will lose the relationship or make a struggle in the treatment. I may lose some o pportunities which may do the work better. Career Choice and Life-Long Learning Career Choice Hong Kong is one of the universe ‘s tenth largest trading economic systems ( HKTDC, 2012 ) . Harmonizing to the official research, Hong Kong was managing an increasing sum of offshore trades ( HKTDC, 2012 ) . At the terminal of the 2011, Hong Kong has 120,273 import and export companies which employee 495,847 staffs ( HKTDC, 2012 ) . The import and export industry besides accounts for 19.8 % of GDP in Hong Kong ( HKTDC, 2012 ) . I am rather interested in this industry so that I choose to choose merchant as my calling. Merchandiser is rather active place in the occupations market ( Jiujik, 2008 ) . The measure of merchant is normally deficient in the industry, particularly in the senior merchants who rich with experiences in procurance ( Jiujik, 2008 ) . Procurement includes many facets in different industries, such as banking, hotel and retailing which merchants have to buy different merchandises or services through different channel over the universe. Merchandiser pays an of i mport function to secure the needful merchandises, stuffs and services in a sensible monetary value with good quality. It helps to salvage cost of production or operation and construct up a repute if there is a good merchant in a company ( Jiujik, 2008 ) . In my calling way, I decide to be a merchandiser aid to have related experiences in the first 2 twelvemonth and so to go a existent merchant. The demands and duties are similar in this two places but merchandiser require past experiences. As an entry degree, the demand is non really high. Harmonizing to the occupation adverts ( appendices ) which I have found, it require merchandiser to hold F7 or above instruction making. Applicants should hold good bid of English and Mandarin. They should be independent, hard-working and well-organization so that they can manage their undertaking by themselves. They should besides be willing to larn different things when they enter into this industry. Merchandiser need to follow up sample development and undertaking which aims to keep the quality of merchandises. Based on the research in JobDB ( 2012 ) , being a senior director normally requires minimal 8 twelvemonth experience in buying sector. I will province in the place or merchant to roll up a dequate cognition and experience to catch the place of merchant. Finally, I hope I can go a sourcing director which I can able to take a buying squad. After holding more understanding about me by making different trials in subdivision A, I found that some of my personality and strengths can fit the demands of this calling. I will discourse in the undermentioned portion. Career and myself Strengths I will discourse the consequences of the three self-assessment trials with my calling pick in this portion. My strengths and failings which have found out from the trial will be used to analysis the lucifer and mismatch between myself and calling. I found I have multi-model learning penchant. It gives me an ability to larn things with different manners. It can increase my connotation to larn because I will non merely concentrate on a individual manner to have cognition. The mark is particularly high ocular and kinaesthetic sectors among the four manners. They are rather utile for me to see different artworks and figures in related to procurance and look into the samples of merchandises by following anterior presentation. The study of the LSQ besides said that I have strong penchant on reflectors. I prefer to understand and analyse an event exhaustively and so do a treatment carefully. Bing a merchant, particularly in senior place, single should analysis assorted facets of information which may be positive or negative and so doing a determination. The incorrect determination may act upon the company repute and concern gross so that the feature of reflector can extinguish the hazard of doing incautious determination. For the personality, it is similar to the consequence if LSQ trial which I prefer to believe something exhaustively before making it. It means I am a careful people which I am truly to make impulse action. I will analyse the issues profoundly and so doing determination. The consequence besides said that I besides seek to develop harmoniousness in the relationship and promote cooperation. It is rather of import for merchant to hold a good relationship in workplace. It is because merchant has to work with different direction degrees and sections to understand their demands and make procurement study. Based on the consequence of Belbin squad functions test, I have the highest grade in rival closer. The feature of this function is rather helpful for me to being a merchant. Merchandiser has to manage different paperss and programs related to procurance. As a rival closer normally seek to happen out the mistakes by look intoing the paperss carefully to guarantee it can run into the related demand. It can cut down the chance of doing errors. Failings There are some mismatch between my calling pick and myself. Although I have multi-model acquisition penchant, my aural sector is comparative low comparison with ocular and kinaesthetic sector which my communicating accomplishment is comparative weak. Merchandiser normally needs to hold dialogues with provider straight to discourse the footings of contacts or others. The weak public presentation on aural sector may act upon the dialogue if merchants can non reassign the messages clearly.
